Training and Technical Assistance

Mary E. Rugg. M. Ed., Early Intervention Program Director at the Institute on Human Development &
Disability (IHDD), University of Georgia, has worked for over 29 years training educators, specialists, care
providers, and families regarding the inclusion of infants, toddlers and preschool children within natural
environments.  Ms. Rugg coordinated the first inclusion program at the McPhaul Child & Family
Development Center at UGA (1984-96), and has worked on several state level initiatives in early
intervention and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

She has presented workshops on the local, regional, national, and international levels and provides
training and technical assistance for the Children with Special Needs/Babies Can’t Wait Program and
Project SCEIs (Skilled Credentialed Early Interventionists). Mary has presented at conferences and
institutes in the U.S. and abroad around the topics of Early Childhood Development and inclusion of
young children into the pre-school settings.

She also offers Technical Assistance and "Portfolio Parties" which introduce the complete concept of the
Take a Look at Me Portfolio to parents, members of the community, service providers, and/or teachers.
These training sessions allow individuals to both learn more about the concept behind the portfolio as
well as create their own unique portrait of themselves or a family member.
