At the Institute on Human Development and Disability at the University of Georgia, our efforts
focus on working with others to create opportunities that will improve the quality of life for people
with disabilities and their families.

We feel that in order to begin working towards a society where each of its members are valued as
contributors to the greater whole, we must first recognize each person and family's unique blend
of culture, community and resources.  We realize that by valuing the assets of each individual, we
can reflect new attitudes towards that person, their family, and the community as a whole. In this
way we can change societal perceptions and beliefs to uphold and amplify each person's unique
strengths.
